What is Medicare

Medicare is a health insurance coverage sponsored by the government for those who are above the age of 65. People who have social security disability for over two years, as well as children and adults under 65 with disabilities, are eligible for it. There are 4 parts of Medicare:

Part A is Hospital Insurance.
Part B is Medical Insurance.
Part C is also known as Medicare Advantage.
Part D is Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage and helps cover the cost of prescription drugs.

Part A: Hospitalization

This will cover your hospital stay. It doesn't have an annual deductible, instead, it has a deductible that applies to each stay in hospital. You don't have to pay any monthly premiums for this coverage as long as you or your spouse are vested through the social security payments made while working.

Part B: Doctors and Outpatient Procedures

This covers outpatient procedures including doctors' visits, labs, ambulance and all procedures that are done in a day. The monthly premium of this coverage will vary depending on your individual income. You are responsible for an annual deductible and approximately 20% coinsurance for Medicare approved charges.
